The Marcus M. Lee Foundation
The Marcus M. Lee Foundation was formed by Rukiya A. Bonner and Amaal A. D. Scroggins - Marcus' dear friends, confidantes, and law school classmates.
In January 2012, the Foundation sponsored the First Annual Marcus M. Lee Oratory Competition, providing students with the opportunity to showcase and enhance their oral and written communication skills. The Oratory Competition, the Foundation's premiere project, will always be the culminating event for a year of public speaking, service, and mentorship. We celebrate Marcus' spirit and honor his legacy, by combining his passion for the art of public speaking with his passion for community service.
2013 Oratory Competition
Our Second Annual Oratory Competition proved to be a success. With a full audience, eager and talented competitors, and guest performances by The DC Youth Slam Team, an inspirational time was experienced by all. We look forward to the continued growth of this event, and providing scholarship opportunities for many years to come. Special thanks to Howard University and the students of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.
Annual Scholarships and Awards
Oratory competitors receive a Certificate of Participation, a medal, and an age-appropriate book chosen to inspire and to stimulate intellect. In addition, scholarships are awarded to First, Second, and Third place winners in each division (Elementary, Middle, and High School).
